26 Things I’ll Never Stop Doing

DSC00595The past year has flown by so quickly and now before I am ready, it is time to turn another year older.

Last year to celebrate I wrote and published my most popular post to date which forced me to stand back and reflect on my life. It was a very honest post that I both enjoyed writing and sharing, so much so that I wanted to do something similar this year.

So with that in mind I have put together a list of 26 things I’ll never stop doing.

1. Reading.

I have had a passion for literature from as far back as I can remember. I love getting lost amongst the pages of a book, immersed in the stories of others that transport me far away. I cannot ever picture my life without having something to read.

2. Learning.

Everyday we can find ourselves learning something new. In my life I want to make sure I never give up the desire to learn new things. For now, I think I want to focus my attention back on trying to learn Italian.

3. Exploring the world around us.

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know that this is my mantra. There is so much in this world around us and through our busy lives we forget about it or ignore it. I want to step out into the forgotten places and take the time to explore.

DSC005044. Being passionate about music.

Music was such a big part of my high school years, I would even go as far as to say it got me through. It gave me something to be passionate about, something to focus on and an outlet for my emotions. While it is not as influential in my life now it is still something that is a great love and I try to incorporate it into my everyday as much as possible.

5. Being active.

It scares me to think that by making some poor lifestyle choices I could actually miss out on being able to do certain activities. I don’t want to miss out on the view from the top because I can’t physically walk up the stairs. To me that is enough motivation to make sure there is always some level of physical activity incorporated into my lifestyle.

6. Being curious about the world.

Curiosity plays a huge role in my motivation. It is the thing that is driving me to learn something new, to try different food or to visit a new place. A never-ending quest to learn more about the world we live in will provide a lifetime of experiences.

fiordland7. Trying each day to be better.

Each day I think you should try and be better than you where the day before. I am not talking about big things, but rather choosing small actions that will enrich our day to day lives. Often it is the little things like saying thank you to a stranger who holds the door open for you that will ensure we are always moving forward.

8. Feeling grateful.

Each day I feel grateful for the life I am living. So often we want more, we want things to be different but really things are pretty great. I want to hold onto that feeling and remember it each time life starts to feel a bit overwhelming.

9. Saving as much money as I can.

This may be a little obvious when it comes to life as everyone tends to want to save but I find it is genuinely part of who I am. I have to seriously consider and justify any large purchases and I find myself thinking about little ways I can cut down to save some extra cash.

DSCN230510. Challenging myself.

If you are not being challenged then I don’t believe you are moving forward. I want to continue to push myself a little further towards whatever it is I want to achieve. I want to set goals and stick to them. The satisfaction of reaching those goals makes it all worthwhile.

11. Making time for friends.

Friends are such an important part of life. They give you someone to share the good and the bad, and they embrace the person you are while supporting the person you want to be.

12. Travelling.

During my life I am sure travel will mean different things. There will be times it may be frequent and other times less so. There will be times when it means flying to the other side of the world and times when it means a quick weekend getaway to a beach I have never been before. Whatever the definition it will always be part of the experiences that shape who I am.

DSCN192613. Loving food.

Food is such a big part of my life. I don’t like eating just for survival but rather I like the activity and enjoyment that surrounds food. Whether it is going to a new restaurant, trying a food I have never had before or baking for my friends and family, it always brings me some kind of joy.

14. Striving for balance.

This one is huge, and I am pretty sure it is on everyone’s list. It is the constant battle that we face in our day to day lives to prioritise tasks we have to do and those we want to do all whilst staying mentally, socially and physically active. It’s exhausting! Learning to say no, accepting things that cannot be changed and embracing those that can, these are the first steps but it will be something I will continue to work towards.

15. Feeling relaxed by the ocean.

Maybe it is because I am a Pisces but the most calm and relaxed I can ever be is when the air is salty and the waves are crashing. Just being near the water makes all the little worries of everyday life disappear and I always return home feeling refreshed.

Feeling relaxed by the ocean16. Taking my lunch to work.

One thing I have never been able to get my head around is how the costs add up when buying your lunch everyday. I have always tried my best to pack a lunch everyday to bring with me to work. With the money I save I could literally buy a plane ticket anywhere in the world…

17. Laughing.

I think the ability to laugh at ourselves and to find the joy and the humour in everyday is something not to be taken for granted.

18. Writing.

Writing has always been a fantastic outlet. It allows me to express my emotions when I’m struggling to speak the right words.

DSC0045219. Watching television shows and movies over and over again.

There is something comforting about re-watching movies and TV shows. They are reliable and you will never be disappointed.

20. Dreaming big.

I am a dreamer. I spend a lot of my day thinking about my goals, however impossible. If you don’t dream it how can you achieve it?!

21. Trying to forget about what others think.

I want to learn to do things for me, because I want to, not because of the opinions of others. Imagine missing out on something amazing because someone else didn’t like it?

Gold Coast22. Loving a good bargain.

I like to think no matter how much I end up with in my bank account each month I will always get excited by a good deal.

23. Trying to get a good night’s sleep.

We all know how important those 8 hours are to ensure a productive day. I have never been a great sleeper so I will continue to strive to get the best nights sleep and wake up refreshed.

24. Escaping to the mountains.

Life seems so simple when you are surrounded by the intensity of nature, forcing you to appreciate its scale and beauty. It is a place where you can embrace the simplicity of life far away from the pressures of society.

DSCN205525. Trying new things.

Changing things up is what keeps life interesting. Whatever it is, if you don’t like it then you never have to do it again so really, what is the harm in trying?

26. Putting in 100%.

I think at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what it is you are doing as long as you are giving it your all. You don’t have to be the best as long as you are making a conscious effort to put in that 100% then you are achieving.

Such a great post and I can totally relate on so many points here. At the moment I am really missing the ocean, not to go for a swim, to just to sit and take in the smells and the sounds. This has encouraged me even more! Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday!

With a birthday coming up, I have found myself reflecting on similar things – moreso the things that I find I haven’t or don’t do enough of. I like your idea of writing a list – I think it helps hold you accountable. Perhaps I will write one of my own, as a type of new year “resolution.”
