A Moment In The French Countryside

a moment in the french countrysideVisiting France was a true highlight for me. There is always a lot to be said about the French but I have nothing but positive words to share about my short time there.

I loved their appreciation for the smaller things in life and the fact that they always seemed to have time, something that I feel I can never get enough of!

There are quite a few places on my list of favourites but one of the best was a day trip that gave a little taste of the French countryside.

One of my favourite photographs from my time in France was taken on this trip as we walked by an old man painting.

painter in franceI love it because it sums up the beauty and the culture that is celebrated by the French.

This photo was quickly snapped after finishing a three course meal at an old water mill on this day tour that took us from Paris to Giverney, and then to Versallies.

After Giverney and exploring Monets Gardens we were taken to this spectacular lunch spot. A moment I will never forget, as the bus turned down this dirt road in the middle of what seemed to be nowhere, from behind the trees emerged one of the most picturesque scenes I have ever seen. Everyone on the bus made an ‘ooooooh’ sound….it was seriously that pretty!

One thing that has stayed with me since my return is the appreciation of art in all forms. I found that people seemed to try and surround themselves in beauty, such as finding a spot in the sun to read in one of the gardens or just relaxing over a meal with a glass of wine watching the world go by. There was more time allocated to enjoying your current situation, and I think we could all stand to take a step back and slow our lives down and appreciate the little things.

This scene with the painter was just so typically French I just had to capture it. About 5 minutes later my camera battery died…thank goodness phones now come with pretty decent cameras!

Sometimes all we need is to sit somewhere beautiful and enjoy the smaller moments…preferably with a variety of pastries and a glass or two of wine ’cause hey, that’s what the French would do!
