This limoncello spritz is my ultimate summer cocktail! Made with just limoncello, prosecco and a splash of club soda, it’s sweet, tangy and bubbly, and it’ll transport you straight to an Italian summer. It comes together in about 5 minutes, which makes it perfect for slow, sunny afternoons and easy entertaining.

For a non-alcoholic version, try this lemon spritz mocktail.

One of my favourite travel memories is sitting on the sidewalk in Trastevere in Rome, sipping a limoncello spritz as the sun set and just people watching. And if you know me in real life then you’ll also have heard me carrying on about it being my drink of summer.

With a spritz being my drink of choice, this sweet and tangy limoncello spritz is definitely the drink for me. It’s the kind of cocktail that you make for lazy afternoons because you’re not spending a lot of time measuring and shaking which means more time actually enjoying.

So while you may have heard of this popular drink, take this post as a reminder that summer is better soaking in the sun with a refreshing, not too sweet, lemony drink with just enough bubbles that it feels a little special.

If you need me, that’s where I’ll be, also living my best summer life.

Key Ingredients

I love an easy cocktail recipe, and this limoncello spritz recipe requires just three ingredients plus your garnishes.

It follows the classic spritz formula of 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts limoncello and 1 part soda, the same easy 3-2-1 method as an Aperol spritz.

All ingredients needed to make a limoncello spritz.

Note all ingredients and their quantities are laid out in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Limoncello – Limoncello is an Italian liqueur made with lemon zest, sugar, and vodka. There are many brands available, some being sweeter than others so it comes down to personal taste preference. The one in the photos I bought in Italy, but I do often use the Luxardo or Di Capri brands as they are easily available.
  • Prosecco – You want to use a prosecco you like to drink. A dry prosecco, labelled brut, keeps the spritz from getting too sweet.
  • Club soda – also known as soda water. Sparkling mineral water works too, and you can also add a little extra to dilute the spritz if you find they are going down too fast!
  • Garnishes – I love to use fresh rosemary or thyme to add a slight earthy taste, and lemon slices of course! Fresh mint would also work well.

Step-By-Step Instructions

There really aren’t any special instructions or tips to making a limoncello spritz as they really are that simple.

Start with the glass. I am just using my wine glasses as a spritz is best served in a large wine glass. Fill it about halfway with ice.

Next, pour in your limoncello, prosecco and club soda/soda water. Once you’ve made a couple you will be able to eyeball the ratios but measuring ensures you get that balance just right.

Pouring prosecco into the glass.
Topping the drink with soda water.

Give it a stir and garnish with a slice of lemon and some fresh rosemary. The freshness of the herbs give a subtle flavour that mingles with the lemon and is just delicious.

Make It a Pitcher! This is a great one to batch for a crowd. Multiply the quantities and stir the limoncello and prosecco together in a jug ahead of time, then add the club soda and ice just before serving so it stays fizzy.

  • spirit jigger
Prevent your screen from going dark

Ingredients

  • 60 ml (2 floz) limoncello
  • 90 ml (3 floz) prosecco
  • 30 ml (1 floz) club soda/soda water
  • Ice to serve
  • Fresh lemon slices to garnish
  • sprig of fresh rosemary thyme or mint

Instructions

  • Add Ice to a glass. Pour over 60 ml limoncello, 90 ml prosecco and top with 30 ml club soda/soda water. Stir.
  • Garnish with Fresh lemon slices and a sprig of fresh rosemary, thyme or mint.

Notes

No jigger? As a rough guide, use about 4 tablespoons limoncello, 6 tablespoons prosecco and 2 tablespoons soda water. It’s a relaxed spritz, so exact measures aren’t critical.
Make a batch cocktail: multiply the quantities and mix in a jug, adding the soda water just before serving to keep it fizzy.
