This easy vegan garlic bread recipe is the perfect addition to your dinner table! It’s my go-to side for homemade pizza, creamy pastas, or for dunking in soups. It’s simple to make, packed with real garlic flavour, and so incredibly delicious!

Garlic bread is always the hero on the dinner table. I honestly think it really elevates any meal because what’s not to love about it? My perfect version is just the right amount of golden and crispy on the edges and simply has to be heavy on the real garlic flavour.
I will confess that I do eat a lot of garlic bread, and I first started making it at home because buying a premade garlic bread that was dairy free used to be difficult.
Thankfully there are a couple of different options for dairy free and vegan garlic breads at the supermarket now which are perfect for convenience. But honestly, making your own is not only easier than you may think, it’s also super budget-friendly and you can’t beat the taste!
This is my go-to version that I’ve been making for longer than I can remember. It honestly felt like a huge oversight that it didn’t have a place on the website until now, but I also wasn’t sure it was really an actual recipe because it’s that simple.
So if you’re after a reliable dairy free garlic bread to have in your repertoire that has been made time and time again in my house, this is it. Serve it alongside your favourite homemade pizza, with soups, or however you like. It’s really a versatile and delicious side.
Key Ingredients
This vegan garlic bread recipe uses simple ingredients that come together fast and produce the best flavour.

Note all ingredients and their quantities are laid out in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- French baguette – I like a baguette for this garlic bread, it’s just easy. But you can really use any loaf of bread you like. For a standard side that will serve 4, you only need half but feel free to double the recipe if needed.
- Vegan butter – your quality of vegan butter is going to impact your overall flavour so use one you like. I always use Nuttelex Buttery which is an Australian product, and is a spreadable variety meaning I can use it straight from the fridge as it’s already soft enough to mix.
- Garlic – you can adjust the amount of garlic based on your tastes. I use 3 cloves as I find this gives me a good punchy garlic flavour.
- Fresh parsley – adds extra flavour and works so well.
- Flaky sea salt

Step-By-Step Instructions
To get started, preheat the oven to 200°C or 400°F.
Slice the baguette in half lengthways and place it on a baking tray, cut side up.
Now to make the garlic butter. Mix together the vegan butter with the minced garlic cloves, chopped parsley, and a pinch of flaky sea salt until well combined.

Spread the garlic butter mixture generously and evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
Place the garlic bread in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes depending on how soft vs crispy you want it.
Slice the warm garlic bread and serve straight away.

Serving Suggestions
Garlic bread can be paired with just about anything, but these are a few of my favourites!
- Pasta – it is the perfect side for classic pasta dishes like spaghetti bolognese, creamy tomato pasta, or creamy garlic prawn pasta.
- Pizza – can you even have pizza without garlic bread?? Try it with my simple prosciutto pizza, classic Hawaiian pizza, or this family favourite BBQ chicken pizza.
- Soup and casseroles – dunk it into soups like this dairy free tomato soup or my favourite sausage casserole.
