I love my air fryer. It took me a while to really get going with learning just how good it was to use on a daily basis, but it’s safe to say that I am now officially converted and I now have a whole section of the site dedicated to air fryer recipes!

Now when I first started using it, I was pretty much just using it to cook frozen potato chips (french fries to my American friends). The result was so much more consistent with every chip being super crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. So it just made sense that I should level up to cooking all my potatoes in the air fryer…

Simple roast potatoes are a staple in my house. I love making a batch for meal prep as they are super versatile and you can serve them with just about anything. The issue is they tend to take a while to roast in order to get that super crispy and golden outside.

The air fryer on the other hand, again achieves a much more even and consistent result thanks to the circulating air around the potatoes, but also takes just 20 minutes!

These are my go-to roast potatoes just made in the air fryer. They are coated in a delicious seasoning and honestly some of them get eaten before they even make the plate.

Key Ingredients

You really don’t need many ingredients to make these crispy air fryer roasted potatoes.

All ingredients needed for air fryer potatoes laid out in bowls.

Note all ingredients and their quantities are laid out in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Potatoes – when roasting, I prefer to use baby potatoes but you can also use either white or red potatoes for similar results. Give them a wash but leave the skin on for the best flavour!
  • Oil – I am using olive oil.
  • Spices – This is my basic spice combination I love on potatoes which is garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. You can however keep it simple with just salt and pepper or add any of your favourite spices or blends. I also love these with a sprinkle of mixed herbs!

Air fryer – It’s no surprise you’ll need an air fryer to make this recipe. This is the one I have which I love and use a lot! It is perfect for 2 people, but if you’re feeding a family look for an XL or XXL size.

Step-By-Step Instructions

To make roasted potatoes in the air fryer, you’ll of course need an air fryer! I have the Philips Essential Air Fryer which is on the smaller size at 4.1L which is perfect when cooking for 2 people, but if you’re cooking for a family you may prefer the XL size.

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can still make these potatoes in the oven, you’ll just need to roast them for approximately 40 minutes on a lined baking sheet or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Start by chopping your potatoes into even sized pieces. With baby potatoes I usually cut them in half and into thirds for the larger ones. If a lot of starchy liquid is released when cutting, gently pat the potatoes dry before placing them into a large mixing bowl.

Cut potatoes in a mixing bowl with seasoning.

Add in the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper and toss until all of the potatoes are evenly coated in the mixture.

Preheat the air fryer basket at 200°C/400°F by running it for a few minutes before adding in the potatoes into a single layer. Cook the potatoes for 10 minutes. Turn the potatoes then cook again for another 10 minutes.

Air fryers are all a little different so make sure to check on the doneness of your potatoes and adjust the cooking time as needed!

Serve the potatoes straight away garnished with fresh parsley and extra sea salt if desired.

Any leftover potatoes can be reheated in the air fryer for 5-8 minutes or until the potatoes are crispy again and hot all the way through. They’ll be just like freshly cooked potatoes!

What to serve with air fryer potatoes

Roast potatoes are delicious as a side or served on their own with a sauce such as dairy free ranch dressing, garlic aioli or a simple herb mayo.

If you have one of those dual zone air fryers, then you could also make my air fryer teriyaki salmon, air fryer chicken schnitzel or air fryer BBQ chicken thighs, for a super quick and easy dinner the whole family can get on board with.

Otherwise, cook your protein of choice in a frying pan or in the oven while the potatoes roast away in the background.

Serve it all alongside my roasted broccoli salad for a healthy and filling meal!
